At modern megawatt wind turbines reliable information about wind speed on rotor is not available so it is necessary to estimate it. This thesis evaluates and modifies already implemented method for wind speed estimation. The evaluation was made by comparing estimated wind speed with measurements on the laboratory wind turbine in Laboratory for Renewable Energy Sources at FER. Thesis contains a brief description of the estimation, anemometers installed in the laboratory and the method of data acquisition. The process of comparison and evaluation is also described. It is concluded that estimation gives satisfactory results and can be used as a part of the wind turbine control system.
